SYNOPSIS
Long before Will & Grace, Brokeback Mountain, Queer Eye or RuPaul, there was Nicholas Snow and Tinseltown’s Queer. In preparation for the 30th Anniversary of Nicholas Snow’s ground-breaking public access television show, Tinseltown’s Queer, he accidentally made this documentary featuring iconic archival television clips of some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, as well as champions of the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement.
Tinseltown’s Queer, Snow’s brainchild combining media savvy and queer activism, reached up to 600,000 households on a regular basis on four different cable systems in the Los Angeles metropolitan area throughout most of the 1990s.
“The editorial mission of Tinseltown’s Queer,” explains Snow, “was to examine the relationship between the entertainment industry and the LGBTQ+ civil rights movement, thereby positively impacting the movement itself. I’ve been a multimedia entertainment activist ever since. It’s been my life’s work.”
Snow, most known now as the creator, producer, and host of PromoHomo.TV©, an online television network streamed across multiple social media platforms, came out as a gay man at the age of 21.
Some of Snow’s guests included LGBTQ+ icons Quentin Crisp, Robin Tyler, Melissa Etheridge, and Morris Kight, and celebs Drew Carey, Christine Baranski, Cristina Applegate, Katey Sagal, Hugh Hefnerand many more.
The first episode of Tinseltown’s Queer was taped April 28, 1993, three days after a March on Washington for LGBTQ+ rights, April 25th, which happened to be Snow’s 31st birthday.

SYNOPSIS
“Life’s a Ball” is an extraordinary short film that pays homage to the vibrant history of the queer ballroom scene, a triumphant celebration of resilience and identity for black members of the LGBTQIA+ community during times of adversity. Set in a world that feels like it should be more accepting, the film unveils an emotional journey where acceptance isn’t just sought, but magnificently earned in a world that yearns for more inclusion.
Our narrative is an ode to the courageous spirit within us all. Following the path of a young queer woman who, after a heart-wrenching public rejection, roams the streets weighed down by dejection. However, destiny intervenes as she discovers an enchanting sanctuary, a realm where magic and reality entwine.
Inspired by Dorian Corey’s profound words – “You don’t have to bend the whole world. I think it’s better to just enjoy it. Pay your dues, and just enjoy it” – our story unfolds, unraveling the beauty of leaving an indelible mark on a world that seeks to undermine individuality. Amidst persecution, we delve into the radical notion of finding joy as an act of defiance, exploring the power of alternative safe spaces to combat the stifling oppression that threatens to engulf us.
“Life’s a Ball” delves into important themes of the various forms liberation can take in the face of oppression, especially in an era marred by the tragic epidemic of unapologetically targeting black queer individuals expressing their joy. We pay tribute to those like O’Shea Sibley and our other persecuted queer fam, resting in power, while framing our exploration within a lens of unwavering hope. This film ignites conversations about vital issues, sparking a renewed sense of unity and transformation.
Join us in experiencing a poignant journey that treads the delicate balance between hardship and aspiration, oppression and liberation. “Life’s a Ball” is an invitation to embrace the magic of radical self-expression, marking a cinematic triumph that resonates far beyond the screen.
